W: War Eagle Mill

war eagle1War Eagle Mill. Here’s another favorite stopping place when I go visit my dad in Arkansas. If we’re not at Terra Studios, we’re here. It’s a historic site and also has a lot of beauty. We wander around, sit by the stream, enjoy a peaceful day in nature … and then pop inside for some of the grains they’ve ground there at the mill, and to get a delicious snack from the restaurant upstairs.

If you’re around the Northwest Arkansas area, make sure to look up War Eagle Mill.

G: Garrett Hollow Natural Area

A2Z-BADGE-0002015-LifeisGood-230_zps660c38a0G: Garrett Hollow Natural Area

garrett HollowFinding your Shangri La to escape from is only a matter of looking. It can be a tiny, secluded spot in an urban space. Or it can be a large outdoors preserve. Here is a protected natural sanctuary in Arkansas. Tucked away in 747 acres in the Ozarks is Garrett Hollow Natural Area.

“Garrett Hollow Natural Area is located at the northern edge of the Boston Mountains in the Ozark Highlands. The natural area is marked by rugged topography and consists of diverse hardwood forests and sandstone glades. Like much of the Ozarks, this natural area contains a number of karst features where fractured bedrock allows water to drain into crevices and solution tubes, creating small caves and subterranean streams. Caves and crevices within the natural area provide critical habitat for the federally endangered Ozark big-eared bat.”
